Cold water swimming, breath control, and mindfulness are known to provide an holistic approach to the prevention of dementia and depression, and have been proven to be beneficial in helping people cope with these issues.

Cold water swimming for the prevention of Dementia and Depression project aims to explore the existing methods of cold water exposure, synthesizing the main, most significant, and most promising methods.

General Objectives

  • Preventing dementia and tackling depression in people aged 50 +

  • Developing an innovative methodology for adults aged 50+

  • Testing the methodology that can change the approach towards the treatment of depression and dementia in adults

  • Providing professionals, trainers and coaches dealing with adults at risk of dementia or elderly affected by depression with an innovative tool that can change their approach

  • Spread a useful method that can be applied all around Europe

  • Increasing the cooperation of different type of organisations in combatting depression and preventing dementia in adults over 50 years of age

Results

WP2: Synthesis of Best Practices and Development of Content

This innovative approach not only promotes inclusion by engaging isolated adults in a refreshing outdoor activity, but also champions a healthy lifestyle. Research suggests cold-water exposure may improve mood, alleviate depression, and even slow dementia progression.
